How SawStop Works
STEP #1: Detect
- The saw blade carries a low-level electrical signal
- When skin makes contact with the blade, the signal instantly changes due to the body’s natural conductivity
- This change is immediately recognized by the saw’s safety system
STEP #2: Stop
- The system activates an aluminum braking mechanism that engages the blade
- The blade is brought to an immediate halt while power to the motor is automatically shut down
STEP #3: Drop
- Once stopped, the blade is forced downward beneath the table surface
- This rapid movement helps eliminate the chance of further contact
- The entire sequence occurs in under five milliseconds
STEP #4: Reset
- Getting the saw back in working order is straightforward
- Inspect the blade, replace it if necessary, swap out the brake cartridge, and the saw is ready to use again
- Most users are back up and running in about 90 seconds
