How SawStop Works

STEP #1: Detect

  • The saw blade carries a low-level electrical signal
  • When skin makes contact with the blade, the signal instantly changes due to the body’s natural conductivity
  • This change is immediately recognized by the saw’s safety system

STEP #2: Stop

  • The system activates an aluminum braking mechanism that engages the blade
  • The blade is brought to an immediate halt while power to the motor is automatically shut down

STEP #3: Drop

  • Once stopped, the blade is forced downward beneath the table surface
  • This rapid movement helps eliminate the chance of further contact
  • The entire sequence occurs in under five milliseconds

STEP #4: Reset

  • Getting the saw back in working order is straightforward
  • Inspect the blade, replace it if necessary, swap out the brake cartridge, and the saw is ready to use again
  • Most users are back up and running in about 90 seconds
